I have come to wonder how CHURCH got involved with motocross. When I say this I mean how come at a Saturday Supercross race they have chapel service? I guess one could say because the riders will be traveling on Sunday, or perhaps it’s because it’s a dangerous sport. Either way I know I’m going to get crap from this post but here goes.
It would really be odd for me to have a church service in the lobby of my work. To have a few business men in suits and a pastor next to the coffee machine throwing down the Word would seem really odd. For some reason motocross ministries have followed the example of organized church and brought full gospel sermons to the professional motocross arena. It seems to me if you’re a Christian motocrosser you should be following the Lord the other 6 days of the week and make Saturday your WORK day and honor God with your work. This is what I’m told over and over again while I’m at church, work as if your working directly for the LORD.
So I find it strange to have a holy man in the supercross pits saying 15 minutes of God’s word. In my experience from talking to people it gives them a false sense of supernatural hope. Like a placebo, I can listen to the pastor speak, I have earned bonus points with God. Yeah I know its powerful and life changing, I’m not disputing that, what I am disputing is let these guys race. If your trying to reach converts then go talk after the races or on Sunday morning. Perhaps just walking around the pits and getting to know the individual and investing in their needs. For some reason I seem to remember Jesus doing that.
Now if the pit pastor is there because it is an inherently dangerous sport then we all better get on our knees on MONDAY – FRIDAY. With the preparation that all these athletes do I wouldn’t think it’s more dangerous than the average Joe’s morning commute to work. More people have been killed or maimed on their way to work than all motocross activities combined.
So I don’t know, call me the eternal optimist that people will own their faith and not rely on the HOLY MAN. Sure it’s good to get fed and led by a pastor but with today’s technology is any less spiritual to listen to your pastor on iTUNES on the airplane? We seem pretty well occupied by movies and sitcoms with that time.
2 tim3:16-17 Says: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I totally agree with the above verse the problem I have is why in the motocross industry do keep preaching 15 minute before someone has to go to hit a 90 ft set of triples for work?
Hey pit pastors can I come over and talk moto while your preparing your sermons?
Flame on!
